Search Brazoria County Inmate Records

Brazoria County inmate records show who is held in the county jail, when they were booked, and on what charge. A Brazoria County inmate search runs through the Sheriff's online jail roster, where you can look up a person by name or by booking number. The roster lists current and past bookings, so it works for recent custody and for older release research. The jail also has clear rules for visitation, mail, phone, and money. Knowing how to read a booking record and how to reach an inmate makes the whole process smoother for family, friends, and attorneys.

How to Use the Brazoria County Jail Roster

The jail roster lives in the Jail Records search on the Tyler PublicAccess portal, the same system that holds court cases. It is free to use and needs no account. The search has two modes. You can search by defendant name, where last and first name are required, or you can search by a booking number if you already have one. Extra fields, such as date of birth and a date-booked range, help cut a long list down to the right person.

Most people start with a name. If the name is common, add a date of birth or narrow the booked-date range. The roster covers both current and past bookings, so a search can pull up someone held today or released years ago. Follow the steps below to run a clean search.

  1. Open the portal and choose Jail Records.
  2. Leave Search By on Defendant, or switch to Booking Number.
  3. Enter the last and first name, which are required for a name search.
  4. Add a date of birth or a date-booked range to narrow results.
  5. Click Search, then open a booking number to read the full detail.

For recent arrests, this roster is also the county's closest thing to an arrest blotter, which the arrest records page covers in more depth.

Brazoria County Jail Records Search Fields

The Jail Records form changes a little based on the search mode. A booking-number search needs only that number. A defendant search opens name fields and several date filters. The table below lists the fields you will see and which ones the portal requires.

What Brazoria County Jail Results Show

A search returns a list of bookings, not a single profile. Each row gives the basics so you can pick the right record. Then you open one to see the full detail.

The result columns include the booking number, the defendant name, the booked date, the released date, the arresting agency, and the charges. A blank released date usually means the person is still in custody, while a filled-in date marks a release. Click the booking number to open the booking detail, which carries far more information than the list view.

Read the charges column with care. A booking can list more than one charge, and a charge at booking is not a conviction. The bond and disposition fields in the detail tell you more about where the case stands. For the court outcome, match the warrant or case number to the court records search.

The Brazoria County Booking Process

A booking is a series of steps, not a single moment. In Texas, after an arrest a person is taken to jail and booked into custody. Staff record the booking, take fingerprints and a photo, and screen the person for health and safety needs. A magistrate then reads the legal warnings and sets bond conditions under the rules of criminal procedure. Only after booking is complete does the record reliably appear in the public roster.

Bond is a key part of this step. The booking detail shows a bond amount and a bond type, such as a bail bond posted through a bondsman. A person may be released after posting bond, after a personal bond, or after a charge is resolved. Because all of this takes time, a search run minutes after an arrest may not show the booking yet. Give the system time, then search again or call the jail.

Sample Brazoria County Booking Detail Fields

The booking detail is where the record gets specific. A sample booking in the portal showed a clear set of fields, from the booking number through the charge table. This inventory maps what each field shows.

FieldWhat It Shows
Booking NumberThe jail's number for the booking
Arresting AgencyThe agency that made the arrest
Booked / ReleasedThe custody start and end dates
Name and DescriptionName, sex, race, height, weight, hair, and eyes
SO NumberThe Sheriff's Office identifier
Warrant NumberThe warrant or case tied to a charge
Charge and Offense DateThe charge text and date of the offense
Bond / TypeThe bond amount and type
DispositionThe release or docket outcome

Not every field is filled in each record. In the sample, the facility and alias fields were blank, and no mugshot or pod location appeared. Treat the detail as a snapshot of the booking, not a full case file.

Brazoria County Detention Center

The Sheriff's Office runs one main jail, the Brazoria County Detention Center in Angleton. It is the place to call when the roster is unclear or when timing is urgent. The official pages list one address and phone for the facility.

When a Brazoria County Booking Does Not Appear

A name may not show up for several reasons. The booking may still be in progress, since the record posts only after booking is complete. The person may have been released before the record updated. The name may be misspelled, or the person may have used an alias. The person may also be held by another agency, not the county jail.

The county does not publish how often the roster refreshes. If the matter is urgent, call the Detention Center at 979-864-2336. If the person may have gone to state prison, check the state system. If a federal case is involved, check the federal locator. The released inmates page walks through those steps.

Note: A jail record can lag a recent arrest, so an empty result does not always mean a person is not in custody.

State and Federal Inmate Searches

The county roster covers the county jail only. A person who is sentenced to prison moves out of that roster and into a state or federal system. For a Texas state prisoner, the Texas Department of Criminal Justice runs its own inmate search. The minimum search is a last name with a first initial, a TDCJ number, or a SID number. The TDCJ site updates on working days, and its data can be at least a day old.

The screenshot below shows the TDCJ Inmate Information Search form, which is separate from the county roster.

You can run a state-prison lookup on the TDCJ Inmate Search by name or number.

For a federal inmate, use the Bureau of Prisons locator, which covers federal inmates from 1982 to the present. More detail on state, federal, and release-notification tools lives on the released inmates page.

Brazoria County Jail Visitation

The Detention Center allows visits every day. The schedule is the same Monday through Sunday, and visitors must register before the window closes. The hours are below.

DayVisitation Hours
Monday8:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m.
Tuesday8:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m.
Wednesday8:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m.
Thursday8:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m.
Friday8:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m.
Saturday8:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m.
Sunday8:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m.

Rules are strict. The jail bans cellphones and electronic devices in the visitation area. Visitors must show valid ID and register at least 15 minutes before the end of visitation. Only two adults and one child, or one adult and two children, may be in the area at a time. A dress code applies, and anyone incarcerated within the last six weeks cannot visit. The jail also offers Securus Video Connect, a web-based video visit option for family, friends, and attorneys.

Accepted ID includes a current state picture ID or driver license, a valid passport, an Armed Forces ID card, or a state Department of Public Safety ID card. The dress code rules out tank tops, see-through or low-cut tops, shorts or skirts above the knee, and similar clothing, and all visitors must wear shoes. A visitor under 18 must come with a parent or legal guardian, and children must be supervised at all times. Visitors first register at Male Visitation before going to the assigned area.

Securus Video Connect lets approved users schedule and join a visit from anywhere with internet access, using a free app, a computer, or a tablet. That option helps families who live far from Angleton or cannot travel during the daytime window.

Inmate Mail and Electronic Messages

Brazoria County changed its mail system on January 9, 2023. The jail no longer accepts packages. Most mail and photos now run through an electronic system on an NCIC account. Messages cost a small fee each, and picture or document messages cost a bit more.

Standard mail has firm limits. Envelopes must follow the county's exact addressing example. Mail can be no larger than 8.5 by 11 inches, with no more than five one-sided pages per envelope and one photograph per envelope. Non-legal mail sent to the processing facility is scanned, delivered electronically, and then destroyed, so the original is not returned. Legal mail is different and must go to the Brazoria County Jail, and it is limited to courts, certain officials, and the inmate's attorney.

Inmate Phone and Money

Phone service runs through NCIC, which became the jail's inmate phone provider on December 22, 2022. A person can set up a phone account or add funds at the NCIC website or by phone. Money for an inmate account goes through Access Corrections, which offers several ways to pay.

  • Online through the Access Corrections website.
  • By phone with a Visa or MasterCard.
  • At the Sheriff's Office lobby kiosk.
  • By cash walk-in at participating retailers through Cash Pay Today.

Participating stores shown by the county include Dollar General, Family Dollar, CVS, 7-Eleven, Kroger, and Speedway. Always confirm the inmate's name and booking number before sending funds.

Attorney Phone and Privileged Calls

The Sheriff's Office can monitor and record inmate phone calls and video visits. It does not intentionally monitor privileged attorney calls. To keep a call privileged, an attorney must create an NCIC account and upload a government photo ID and bar card. Those non-recorded lines are reserved for official attorney-client communication.

This setup matters for defense. A recorded jail call can become evidence, so families should not discuss case strategy on a standard line. The court records and arrest records pages cover the case side of an inmate's situation.
